(Ayodhya Kaanda)
SCENE 3
Mandhara’s talk – Kaikeyi’s actions:
Who is this Mandhara? (A close attendant/assistant to look after Kaikeyi’s personal matters).
Why did Kaikeyi (King Dasaradha’s 2nd wife) allow this Mandhara to move closely with her?)
Why were Mandhara’s concocted and fictitious words entertained and given weightage and importance by Kaikeyi?
Why does Kaikeyi listen to Mandhara’s jealous and politically motivated words and unwanted family information forecasts?
Mandhara will be a short woman family assistant to Kaikeyi. Mandhara is a short woman and has a little, but hunchback ward curve. (The back bone body will have a bend curve). Mandhara walks with a bent physique.)
Mandhara came from Kaikeyi’s mother’s house.
For the works of Kaikeyi, Mandhara has joined Kaikeyi in King Dasaradha’s house (after the Kaikeyi’s marriage with King Dasaradha, and was involved in gathering the unwanted information from here and there.)
Mandhara was behaving like an informer to Kaikeyi, while performing the duties as a personal assistant to Kaikeyi.
In a way Mandhara was a secret informer to Kaikeyi, while Kaikeyi encouraged Mandhara in these types of activities.
Mandhara comes each day to Kaikeyi’sRajmandir, as if there is important information to be conveyed to Kaikeyi.
Mandhara sometimes conveys messages to Kaikeyi as if it’s very serious in family matters.
Mandhara is an all-important and confidential woman assistant to Kaikeyi.
“Morning 11.00 AM – Kaikeyi – Mandhara, Servants – Rajamandir”
Mandhara:
Look Kaikeyi, please listen to my words
There is some important information available with me.
This information’s are house burning topics
Please be alert and be active kaikeyi
Previous Chapter : Part 18 Sri Ramayana (Ayoadhya Kaanda)
Kaikeyi:
What’s your problem?
Why did you come here hurriedly?
Mandhara:
Oh! You’re living in Rajmandir.
Don’t you know the information?
I don’t think you knew this information.
Ayodhya people are talking and discussing only one thing.
(Some tears roll down from Mandhara’s eyes and weeps)
Kaikeyi:
What’s the news? And Tell me?
Or you please stop weeping and tell me.
Mandhara:
Everybody knew well about the information in the Rajmandir.
The entire Ayodhya nagar people knew this
Don’t you know this?
If you do not know, then you are in a different world.
You are living in your dream world.
I don’t understand.
Ram is being crowned as a King in a Coronation Ceremony
All the preparations are underway.
The entire Ahyodhya is in happy moods.
Kaikeyi:
So what?
Mandhara:
Oh! Kaikaa…. You’re a fool.
Why will Dasaradha tell you this?
When elder wife Kousalya is there, why will he inform you of all this type of information?
Moreover, Ram is the eldest son.
Ram will be crowned as a King of Ayodhyanagar in a Ceremonial function.
You think that your son Bharath will be crowned as a King?
Kousalya will become Ayodhya’s Rajmaatha.
She will lead a dignified life.
She will order and rule Ayodhya as Rajamaatha.
Nobody cares about you then Kaikeyi, tells Mandhara.
Next Chapter : Part 20 Sri Ramayana (Ayodhya Kaanda)
Kaikeyi:
So, do you mean to say that Ram will rule Ayodhya?
Mandhara:
Listen Kaikeyi, Listen.
Something went wrong in your mind.
If Ram rules the Ayodhya, your son Bharath’s words will not be valid.
Nobody cares about Bharath.
Then nobody listens to your words.
Please be alert.
I am telling you about your goodness.
Kaikeyi:
Oh! Is it the real Mandhara?
Will all the things that you are saying become true?
I’m not able to understand anything.
I’m not able to judge these.
Mandhara:
Yes, Kaikeyi.
All are true.
These are all the politics happening in the Rajmandir.
These are jealous politics.
You are getting betrayed.
You’re getting neglected.
Your Bharat will be side tracked.
You don’t know how to get on with these Ayodhya’s Kingdom political affairs.
You don’t know Rajmandir people’s inner sense of feelings.
People here have one thing in their heart.
People spell out something from the lip side.
All the people here are cut-throat people and backbiting people.
Make people believe, and then they cut their throat.
You don’t know the politics here.
Please listen to me, you will shine in Ayodhya.
Bharath will become the King and not Ram.
Look, Kaikeyi, you’ve to become Rajmaatha.
You’ve to rule Ayodhya as Rajmaatha.
Your son Bharath only should become the King of Ayodhya.
You’ve to see Bharath as a King.
All Ayodhya people should feel happy and enjoy themselves.
Otherwise, you and Bharath have to live like slaves.
Then you’ve to live like a lifeless woman.
Kaikeyi:
Oh! What a situation is arising.
Mandharaa…. Look, then we will get smashed.
My mind is not working, Mandhara.
You please advise me mandhara, as to how I should behave.
Mandhara:
So, please listen to me carefully.
(I don’t think anybody is here)
Lest, all the people will weep on me.
“Walls will have ears”
Kaikaa, look here. Listen. There are so many things happening in Ayodhya.
I will tell you one thing.
You were earlier given two commitments by Dasaradha.
I think you’ve forgotten those two commitments.
Now, you ask those two commitments to be fulfilled from your husband Dasaradha’s side.
Onething, as Dasaradha to make Bharath as King.
Second one, Ram has to spend 14 years in Aranya, as Aranya vasa is in the Forest.
Ram has to be in the forest for 14 years.
Then only you will become Rajmaatha of Ayodhya.
Bharath will rule the Ayodhya.
Then only Kousalya and Sumitra will listen to your words.
Other Raj pramukhs also will listen to your words and care for you.
Otherwise, you will not be treated as a sister to Kousalya.
Kousalya will treat you as a servant maid.
Be alert and be fast, Kaikaa.
Do you want to become a Rajmaatha or you want to become a servant maid?
Otherwise, Ram will rule Ayodhya after the King’s Ceremonial function.
Your son Bharath will serve to Ram or Bharath will be sent to his Maternal Uncle’s place.
Kaikeyi:
My mind is not working, Mandhara.
Mandhara:
Ram will be made as a King.
Then harm will take place to Bharath.
Kousalya will become Rajmaatha.
Kaikeyi will have to do service to Kousalya as assistant.
Kousalya orders – Kaikeyi follows.
Dasaradha shows much more affection for Kousalya than you Kaikeyi.
This is clearly evinced through the actions of Dasaratha.
And at last, look at Kaikeyi, if you are not smart enough then you will become a servant to Kousalya or become an assistant to Kousalya.
Kaikeyi:
Yes, you are correct Mandhara.
Now my mind has started functioning.
Earlier I had some boot-mind.
I don’t have the knowledge like you.
I don’t have the intelligence like you.
I am not that smart like you, Mandhara.
Come on, take this Diamond Necklace.
I am Hats off to your brain, Mandhara.
You’ve enlightened me and advised me well.
You’ve given me good knowledge.
You’ve trained me well in this subject.
Look, Mandhara, I am a little bit confused.
I can’t tolerate and resist the actions of Dasaratha.
I am losing control on my mind.
My heart is burning.
My blood is boiling
My entire body is shaking.
Tell me Mandhara, what’s my position now?
Mandhara:
You please go to Dasaradha.
Please weep before him.
Show your uneasiness.
Then, you please start telling him what I said.
“Bharath has to be crowned as a King”
Ram should go to Aranya(Forest) and spend 14 years there.
These two things you please demand.
Then Ram will go to the forest.
Bharath will become a King.
Kaikeyi:
Yes, Mandhara.
At any cost Ram should not become a King.
There should not be a “Coronation” – Crowning Ceremony to Ram.
Mandhara, can you please tell me some way out of this.
Mandhara:
Okay. Listen to Kaikeyi, carefully.
You have saved Dasaradha while he was entangled in a war with demons (Rakshasas).
At that time, Dasaradha, as a gesture, asked you to seek two word commitments.
You told me at that moment that at the proper time, I will ask these two commitments to be fulfilled.
I don’t think you remember this incident.
You’ve forgotten these two commitments.
Kaikeyi:
Yes, Mandhara. I’ve fully forgotten these two commitments.
I’ll meet Dasaradha immediately.
I’ll ask these two commitments to be fulfilled now, as promised by Dasaradha.
Mandhara:
Hey Kaikeyi! Don’t forget this.
First one is that Ram has to spend 14 years in the forest.
Second one is Bharath to be crowned as King.
Your life will be different after this.
Bharath vamsa will forever live long.
Dasaradha will definitely fulfill his commitment.
Dasaradha will surely obey your ambition.
Why delay Kaikeyi?
Please call Dasaradha to your Rajmandir.
You act as if you are not well.
Please make Rajmandir’s entire place look like a bad environment.
You start weeping on your bed.
You please make a big weeping action.
When Dasaradha comes to you Rajmandir, you ask for your two commitments.
You achieve your goal, Kaikaa.
Okay Kaikaa, please don’t tell all my words to anybody.
Otherwise, I will become bad in this Ayodhya.
If so, all people will beat me.
I am telling you only good things only.
Be careful Kaikaa.
I will take leave now Kaikaa.
(Mandhara will leave Kaika’sRajmandir)
Kaikeyi goes to her bedside in her Rajmandir.
