The science of happiness and gratitude are closely linked!
Research has shown that gratitude is a key component of happiness. When we focus on what we’re grateful for, it can Increase positive emotions , Enhance relationships , Improve physical health , Reduce stress and anxiety , Promote better sleep and Increase resilience.
Practicing gratitude can be simple as keep a gratitude journal , share gratitude with others , write thank-you notes and take a moment each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for.
The science of happiness and gratitude reveals that by cultivating gratitude, we can increase our overall happiness and well-being!

- Martin Seligman • Dan McAdams • Robert Emmons • Sonja Lyubomirsky
Their work has shed light on the powerful connection between gratitude and happiness, and provides practical strategies for incorporating gratitude into our daily lives.
The neurotransmitters involved in gratitude are:
1. Dopamine: ( associated with pleasure, reward, and motivation. )
2. Serotonin: ( influences mood, social behavior, and feelings of well-being )
3. Endorphins:( natural painkillers and mood elevators )
4. Oxytocin: ( often called the “love hormone,” it’s involved in social bonding and attachment )
5. GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid): an inhibitory neurotransmitter, it helps regulate the activity of other neurons, promoting a sense of calm and relaxation during experiences of gratitude. These neurotransmitters work together to reinforce gratitude and promote a positive outlook.
