Make your home and cozy, with warm colours, textures and winter themed accessories.

To beat the winter blues add cheer to things around you by changing your décor. Create a warm, comfortable and appealing environment to counter the gloomy weather outside.

LIVING ROOM

Arrange the seating pieces so that you can have a cozy and comfortable space. There’s nothing better than a cozy corner to curl up and catch up on reading or to chat with near and dear ones. Re-arrange furniture to have some intimate spaces, and creative niches. Group some easy to move furniture’s in corners for some informal conversation. Set the mood of the season by putting some dried flower arrangements or branches on your coffee or side tables. Keep cards and board games handy for family members and friends to enjoy together. This is also the perfect time to go for bright wall murals.

You should even hand a colourful painting to spice things up a bit. Place some fresh flowers in a bright and pleasant looking vase. Use of colourful and scented candles will add colour and warmth to your living room.

COLOURS

Thedull, grey tones outside can be quite dampening on the mood and spirits, a good way to counter this is through the inclusion of warm colours, rich textures, and winter themed accessories. So try accenting your décor with deep red, oranges, gold and browns. Paint just one side of a wall and bright orange or yellow. You could even have some terracotta tiles on one side of the wall. Use lots of throw cushions for added comfort. They come in a wide array of shapes, sizes, and colours. Use heavy and soft fabrics for more warmth.

Velvet, satin and other soft fabrics can make things cozy and comfortable. If you have avoided using them so far, now’s the time to get them.

LIGHTING

Lighting can make or break the ambience of a room. The lighting should not be too bright. Candles can be used very effectively. Decorative candles in ornate candleholders can make a wonderful centerpiece on your coffee table. Go for colourful, perfumed candles to add a sparkle to your evenings and at dinner time. Place them in front of mirrors or with groups of plants for a unique effect.

Also, opt for lampshades that arte mulberry or copper coloured, Soft lighting and rich, colours will make the room warm and cozy. Decorative light stands, used moderately, can help add drama and accent light to your interiors. You can drape them along door-ways, window sills, or cabinets to add a warm glow to your home.

RUGS AND CARPETS

Winter is the best time to flaunt your lovely rugs and carpets. Nothing spells winter like a heavy, furry rug under your feet. Regardless of their size, these add a sense of warmth to a room. Smaller foot mats should be provided beside the cot to avoid stepping off the bed onto a cold floor and at the entrance to the attached toilets. You can even use runners in the connecting passages and hallways.
